Who we are. Marine ECDIS Lab (Android package com.seamanapp.ecdislab) is published by Simplified Maritime,
the operator of the Seaman App. Contact: admin@seamanapp.com or
admin@seamanapp.com. We process personal data under the Philippine Data Privacy
Act of 2012 (RA 10173) and, for users in the EU/UK, the GDPR.
What the app is. A training console that looks like a type-approved ECDIS. It is a learning app: not type-approved, not approved training, and never for navigation.
1 · Your account (optional)
You can use the app without an account. If you sign in, you use your Seaman App account, the same account as the Seaman App and Marine Radar Lab (one login for all our apps). When you sign in or create an account we process:
- Email address and a user ID: to sign you in and keep your account.
- Name: only if you sign in with Google (Google gives us your name). It is shown in the app.
- Your password never reaches us in readable form; it is handled by our authentication provider.
The account is stored by Supabase (our hosting and authentication provider, acting for us). Google Sign-In is provided by Google. We do not sell or share account data, and we do not use it for advertising.
2 · Location (only if you switch own ship to GPS)
SETTINGS › OWN SHIP › GPS shows your phone's own position, course and speed as own ship on the chart. Only then, and only after we explain why, Android asks for the location permission ("while using the app"; never in the background). The position is used on the phone only: it is not stored, not sent to us or anyone, and the sensor is switched off when the app leaves the screen or GPS mode is turned off.
2a · Sensors you connect (NMEA, AIS)
ROUTE MONITOR › SENSORS can read a GPS receiver, an AIS unit or a ship's NMEA output that you connect (USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi), or a log file you open. Positions, AIS ship data and other sensor values are decoded and shown on the phone only: they are not stored unless you press RECORD (the recording stays on the phone until you export it yourself), and nothing is sent to us or anyone. Bluetooth ("Nearby devices") and USB permissions are asked only when you connect such a device. The links close when the app leaves the screen. A connected sensor does not make the app a navigation system: it is a training console, NOT FOR NAVIGATION.
3 · Charts, routes and files
- Charts you load (your own chart folders or zips) are read on the phone. They are never uploaded.
- Routes, passage plans, exercises and settings are stored on the phone. Files you export are written where you choose with Android's own save dialog.
- ENC packs: when you install or update an ENC pack, the app downloads the chart files directly from their publisher's website: NOAA (charts.noaa.gov), the US Army Corps of Engineers (ienccloud.us), the German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (elwis.de) or Rijkswaterstaat (vaarweginformatie.nl). Their servers see your IP address, as for any download. Nothing about you is sent with the request.
4 · Device identifier (when paid activation arrives)
The current version collects no device identifier. When paid licences arrive, a licence will be usable on up to two of your devices. To count them, the app will send a device identifier that Android provides for this purpose (the App Set ID, shared only among our own apps), a key created inside your phone, and the device model, linked to your account, for app functionality and fraud prevention. Stored as a keyed hash; never sold or used for advertising; removed when you remove the device or delete your account. We will update this policy and the Google Play data-safety section before that version is released.
5 · What we do not collect
No advertising ID, no ads, no analytics or tracking SDK, no crash-reporting service, no contacts, photos, microphone or camera. Purchases (when they exist) are made through Google Play; card details never reach us.
6 · Keeping and deleting your data
Account data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time, in the app (menu › PRIVACY & ACCOUNT › DELETE MY ACCOUNT) or on the web: delete-account.html. Deleting the account deletes the Seaman App account and the data linked to it in all our apps. Data on your phone is removed when you uninstall the app (or clear its storage in Android's settings).
7 · Your rights
You may ask to access, correct or delete your data, or object to its processing, by writing to admin@seamanapp.com. You may also complain to the Philippine National Privacy Commission (privacy.gov.ph) or your local data-protection authority.
8 · Children
The app is made for adult seafarers and maritime students. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
9 · Changes
We will post changes on this page with a new effective date, and say so in the app when a change matters.
